December 2010

we had a first in our house we had one really sick child. It all stared the week of Christmas. Hunter came down with strep throat and so I took him to the doctors and started him on the normal treatment antibiotics. The next Beckham woke up throwing up and fevering. So we started Beckham on antibiotics just to be on the safe side. As each came and went and he was suppose to be getting better he was getting worse. By Christmas Eve he was horrible he has been fevering for 4 days straight his mouth was covered with sores. If you look in one of the pictures closely you can see some of the sores on the lips. We couldnt do anything for him. We couldnt take him to the doctors or intsa care they were closed. He was not eating and barley drinking no matter what we tried. We just kept pushing on. We did the normal Christmas Eve activities and he was miserable we left early because he was in so much pain with his mouth sores. Christmas Morning seems kinda like a blur now. We all woke up to open presents but we left Beckham because he was finally sleeping after being up most of the night. So we opened presents with out Beckham. By the time we were done with present he woke up he saw his Santa gift and opened a couple of presents not with much enthusiasm. We carried on with the day as we normally do, we had the other kids we had to make as normal as we could for them. We went to my parents for Breakfast then off to the Dahl's. Then we headed home. At that point Beckham was not eating or drinking anything at all. We tried everything you can think of Shakes, Smoothies, Popsicle, pop, anything but his mouth was so sore nothing worked. By Christmas early evening Josh and I were worried, he had been running a fever for 5 days and was super dehydrated. We decided to take him in to the hospital. We dropped the two older kids off at my parents and went over to Provo. He was screaming the whole time. When they weighed him he had already lost five pounds. Which does not sound like a lot but Beckham is tiny so to him that is a ton he weighed 20 pounds. He was dehydrated, so they started a IV which he absolutely hated and gave him some pain medicine. we were only there for a couple of hours nut I knew that he was feeling better when we left. They gave us some pain Medicine and sent us on our way. He was a new kid. Now I know that in really was not a big deal, and I fought with myself if we should even take him in, but I am sure glad that we did.
